Whenever I hear the words, "new year" Death Cab always rings in my ears.
So this is the new year and I don't feel any different.
I can't say I felt different on my birthday or now when it's about to be a new year.
Although I'm going to try my hardest despite how same the day feels,
to make new changes.
I still have my list of goals from my birthday.
I've learned to crochet, bought a record player and started collecting vinyl.
I've started carrying my film cameras more, but have yet to develop them!
I've also been doing much more reading and mix-tape making.
Now it's time to get back to sewing and focusing on myself.

I want to say that Brent will be a part of this next year, however I'm not sure exactly what the future holds. We've been having some really great times recently. Almost scary how great they were. I don't want to get my hopes up. I don't want to hurt or be hurt. It's so hard to take things slow. Brent just got laid off work, again. He's behind on bills. I feel like being superwoman and picking up however I can, but I can't. I need to focus on the last five months of my program and making myself happy. I'm just a worrier and a giver. I don't want to be bummed out on New Years. I have the option to go out, but of course I'm choosing to stay in with some wine and a movie.

Hope you all have a fun filled New Years and I wish you luck on all your goals!
Here's a silly Elizabethtown movie inspired photobooth slide.
[not sure why I felt the necessity to go gangster face with the 'e']

Christmas Recap

Hope all of your holidays were full of cheer! I was so excited this year about buying gifts and celebrating Christmas with my family. My brother flew in from California last week so the family has been together non-stop! I waited for him to get home to go shopping for our parents since we always split the bill. They tend to be tough to shop for so we always hope one of us has an idea for them! We ended up buying my dad a new stereo for his car. (Jealous, I need one too!) Then we got my mom a bunch of mini gifts to equal the same price. One of those that I loved was a Shiatsu Neck Massage Pillow. Good Lord I used it all night because it felt so great! My brother and I agreed since money has been so tight lately to not worry about getting each other anything. He just quit his job working for Paramount Studios. (I know, who would quit that job?!) He got an amazing internship though, so felt it was the best decision. I'm really worried about him though because the internship starts out unpaid and well he's supporting a house payment for three other people. Hopefully they'll step up for him though!

Onwards! We had Christmas with my dad, mom, brother and Brent at my parents house early. Everyone loved their gifts including Brent. I was so excited about his gift this year I could hardly contain myself. Let me tell you... this boy has been collecting records for a while, yet has had NO record player! He's been hoping to snatch one at a thrift store, but it's taken way too long to find! I ended up buying him the portable suitcase style Crosely turntable along with the matching retro stand. Lets face it, after I saw the stand set up so nicely at Urban Outfitters it was a must have! I also snuck in an instrument. The past few years I've bought him quite a few. Hoping he'll eventually have a wide collection! I wanted to get him a banjo but found a great deal on a beautiful mandolin. I just wish I had the money to buy him a better quality brand or an antique one. Oh well! All that matters is that he loved them! My parents got him a bunch of other goodies as well. I've loved having him at our family Christmas the past five years. My dad is also a huge collector of vinyl and spent the rest of the night with Brent picking out and playing records. It was beyond adorable. We spent the rest of the night drinking Bailey's, eating cookies, sitting in the dark by the Christmas tree and watching Christmas specials. <3
Pics of Brents Gifts!
Brent got me a book and a Diana Mini which I've been wanting! He's also taking me out next week to Easton shopping center in Columbus! I seriously LOVE that place this time of year! Not to mention they've got EVERY single one of my favorite stores. ^_^
As for gifts from my parents... they got me a new $300 radiator.. Nope not kiddin. I felt really bad it just so happened to break down right before Christmas. They made sure I still had gifts to open though! I got an awesome pink pan and utensil set! A heating blanket! Mind you this heating blanket has been on ever since then! I actually use it instead of additional space heaters. My apartment is in the attic of an old house, with barely any insulation. The heater has no effect at all! I also got new scrubs for work because I hate buying them for myself! Also, a gift I forgot I needed, a mini-toaster and a mini-mixer because sadly my beloved Kitchen-aid mixer is too bulky for my tiny kitchen or my big red espresso maker for that matter! Of course I finished off with lots of gift cards for grocery stores and some of my favorite clothing stores!
Picture of a similar set to mine:
The next day we went to my Dad's side of the family's Christmas get together. It was really difficult for me because it was at my Grandma and Grandpa's house that my uncle purchased and completely remodeled in the past year. It was not only difficult going there and not seeing them, but being in a house full of memories that no longer look the same as you remember. We spent all night eating until our stomach's hurt, laughing until our stomach's hurt and reminiscing. It was so great to see my cousin's from Florida and Colorado and their babies! (Seriously starting baby fever! MUST RESIST!) But I tried the entire night to not think about my grandparents.. or what it was like the last Christmas I was with them knowing it'd be the last. =/ We had a little gift exchange and left with enough time to drive home before falling asleep.
This is an old & favorite photo of my grandparents.
I'll forever love and miss them.
They will always, always, be an inspiration.
The next day we ventured over to my other Grandma's house to have my mom's side family Christmas. She is my only grandparent left and we're all trying to cherish these moments. She just downsized to a smaller home and is doing well for her age... despite falling and breaking her foot and some early signs of memory loss. Every year since we were little we've had a huge exchange between my only cousin on that side of the family and my brother and I. However, now my cousins fiance and Brent of course have been added in. My Aunt is one of those spenders that loves buying gifts like myself, but does so much you feel guilty! My Grandma doesn't shop for gifts anymore like she used to or wrap them, but my mom and Aunt help her. This year however after everyone was finished opening gifts and already feeling overwhelmed, my Grandma passed out an envelope to each cousin filled with more cash than I'm ever going to mention. I won't lie I immediately teared up and didn't even want to accept it, then she started to cry also. She said it was because she didn't spend as much on gifts this year. When I know she did it because she's not sure if this will be the last Christmas she's with us. It just really breaks my heart. =/

To not speak of sad things, some of my favorite gifts from this exchange were: New ASICS running shoes, Victoria Secret sweats (shame on me!) more cookie sheets and cooling racks (since I left my old ones at Brent's) tons and tons of candles, bath items and wallflowers from Bath & Body Works! $200 in gift cards and hey, of course lots and lots of candy. =] Now all I'm itching to do is shop, shop, shop next week!

PS -- How can I not mention Margot's first Christmas either?
My family always does a little exchange between pets. This year Margot got gifts from 5 family pets! She finally got a pink collar! I bought her a blue one originally thinking she was a boy! She also got some organic treats, a kitty laser (which I've never seen a cat go so insane over!) and lots and lots of bells, mouses and feathery toys. All I'll say is she  has been quite the busy girl ever since then! I just wish I could hide all the noisy toys at night!
It's been difficult lately getting good pictures of her since she's a ball of energy and can't hold still... and I currently can only use iPhone for pictures. This weekend I dropped my digital camera while I was taking photos for my etsy shop and the lens stopped adjusting and reading errors. So I'll be treating myself to a little Christmas gift when my school loan check comes in January. I'm pretty sure I know the camera I'm getting. I just know my mom is going to flip because she thinks I'm buying a cheap-o. But I really do need a good DSLR again because I'm photographing my cousins wedding in August! =D
Lot's of blabbering in this post!
Again, I hope you all had a great Christmas! Now it's on to New Years!

Merry Christmas!

Hope you all are having a great Christmas! I've been running around to family gatherings, eating food until I'm sick, laughing, drinking wine, opening gifts etc. This is my favorite time of year! I'll share more later, but had to do a quick post to wish you all a Merry Christmas!

I put a cute red and green bow on Margot, but she refused to hold still for a picture.
This is the best we got!

Late Night Learning

I've been admiring crochet creations for quite some time! I decided this winter while I was snuggled up, warm indoors, I'd spend some time teaching myself how! So today after work I headed over to the craft store and found myself stumped in the yarn aisle. I decided to pick up some starter hooks and a how-to book. Of course the first stash of yarn I gravitated towards and purchased was warm fall colors!
It will be a while until I'm able to crochet great things,
but I thought I'd share some of my crochet inspiration!
One of my mini goals now is to gather enough yarn to have a little basket of my own.
Here's a lot of fun inspiration!

My Favorite Christmas Cookie

It's been a tradition in my family to get together before Christmas and bake cookies all day for the entire family. My grandma, aunt, mom and cousins would gather in the kitchen for hours mixing, baking and icing from dusk until dawn. However this year it was just my mother and I to ourselves. It was a bit more difficult, but we got the job done! We made 3 different kinds of cookies and peanut butter fudge. I still have to make sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies, but they'll have to wait! I decided to share my favorite Christmas cookie. One you all probably know how to make, but I've had other recipes and this one is the best!
Peanut butter blossoms are one of the easiest cookies to make
and to me the most delightful to taste!
Soft peanut butter cookies, dusted with sugar and
centered with a kiss that melts in your mouth.
1 3/4 cups of flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
Sift together flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl. In a separate bowl cream together butter and peanut butter, then slowly add in sugar and brown sugar. Beat in vanilla and one egg. After, blend in the separate bowl of dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, and salt) and mix thoroughly.  Shape dough into small balls, roll them in sugar and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes. Place Hershey kiss in the center of the cookie, then bake again for 2-4 minutes.

Paper Snowflakes

Paper snowflakes are so simple to make and always have a pretty outcome. While I was sick at home last week I started cutting some out of my own. I ended up getting carried away and made a few dozen of them! Then unsure what to do with them all, I left them on the floor for a few days. During those few days, my kitten, Margot destroyed most of them and scattered the rest all over the apartment.
I decided to hunt them all down today and make a snowflake garland by stranding them all together. The project of stranding together some snowflakes ended up being a huge challenge since Margot thought it was play-time and managed getting herself in a tangled mess! Alas though, they're hanging from the archways in my apartment. I realized I should've used newspaper or a pale blue to have some contrast with my walls though!

After a long "hard" day of playing.
Of course I'd love to be a cat.

Thrifty Thursday - Belated

I apologize for not updating yesterday! I was busy all day grabbing Christmas gifts with my mom. Then when I got home I decided to color my hair instead of updating. =X So I decided to post today instead of waiting another week! I really need to spend an entire day updating my etsy shop. I'm realizing my new apartment has a lot less storage than I need for my shop items! Onwards!

The first dress is an odd ball, but I bought it anyways.
I love, love, love the second and third!
It's been hard lately buying things I need to sell, when I want them for myself!
Found some pretty shoes! They don't fit well enough to keep though!
Here's my favorite lucky find this week.
The picture does NO justice for this pretty number.
I know a sweet old lady at an antique shop & I can't even say the price she offered me!
It's an old beautiful silk wedding gown.
I'll have to take better pictures on my dress form later for the shop.
A cute embroidered top and awesome vest!!!
A set of funky, but cute yellow canisters.
I'm thinking about filling the second set with ingredients for cookies
& a recipe for Christmas gifts!
More sets of printed glasses, my favorite!
One thing I've found unfortunate is how delicate they are.
I already broke two of my old ones. =[
Lastly, some pretty teacups, a planter & mushroom embroidery.
I've been sick all week so I haven't seen any friends really, until today!
Alyssa gave me some things for my birthday, including...
haha, yes that's how nerdy  I am that I absolutely love this!

Winter Mix

I decided to work on a mix this week while I've been sick, lounging around in pajamas drinking soup and tea. After all, making a-mix-a-month was on my birthday goal listDon't think because it's a "winter" mix, it's filled with Christmas songs either! I decided to pick all the songs that to me, bring out all the feelings in this cold season. I imagine playing this mix in my car, while driving down a snow covered road, lit by street lights, with a warm cup in hand. Some songs are instrumental, which I know not everyone favors, but give them a chance! I really enjoyed making this mix and hope you enjoy it too!
(I don't think you can actually fit all these on one cd, but I couldn't take any off!)
Download FREE here!
The link is at the bottom, sorry about the ads!
Also, make sure the playlist is in order when listening!
I pulled Brent's help in to get the perfect flow.

Free Falling

It's time to say goodbye to fall, as the first snow arrived today. I was so shocked to already scrape ice and snow off my car after work! Fall flew by and I never got to take any photos outdoors, which is my favorite season to! I decided before I dig into Christmas cookies, gifts and decorating, to say farewell to fall with some pretty photos I took the past few years. I wish I had this blog a long time ago. Now I feel like I have so much catching up to do!
These are from The Gorge Park last year.
I always liked the way the trees in the foreground framed the sky.
Brent was either yawning or about to talk here. =P
This was at the beginning of fall one year.
I'll always value my grandmothers pin I'm wearing.

Now it's time for SNOW and HOT CHOCOLATE and MITTENS and BLANKETS and CUDDLING and MOVIES and CHRISTMAS LIGHTS and GIVING! I will be updating soon with some of my holiday decorating I'm sure!
Also, thanks everyone for all the lovely birthday wishes on here, twitter and facebook!! <33

Happy Birthday To Me

I'm one pale 23 year old!
My lovely day started off working of course! They let me out early though and the sweetest lady at a bakery pagoda in the mall gave me a free cupcake! My parents arrived at my apartment shortly after with my fabric bin and an organizer to sort them. I can't wait to get back to sewing!

I decided I want to stay at home and watch a movie and eat dinner instead of going out like we usually do! Sometimes family time is best relaxing at home! I didn't expect anything additional from my parents for my birthday because they got me my kitty last month! They gave me some vintage Christmas ornaments, a gift card and a Brita water filter! Thank goodness because I drink tons of water and am tired of buying jugs! I don't think the water at my apartment is unsafe, but I don't necessarily want to drink water from 100 year old pipes!

I'm hoping I can go out with friends this coming weekend since I was so busy working retail with the holidays this past weekend! Check out my 23 things to do before I'm 24 list here!
Florence Margot is the sweetest, cutest, cuddliest, precious, baby ever!
