Friday's Fun Finds

It's that time again! This weeks finds are from ModCloth! I made a few outfits of my favorite items. I was about to purchase the first dress, but all the reviews said it fit strangely and the colors appeared different than in the picture. Also, the sapphire ring in the third picture is beautiful! I just don't get why cute rings have to take up three fingers? I just want a pretty small ring!

(dress $48, boots $45, ring $28)
 (dress $80, necklace $15, shoes $68)

(purse $200, dress $50, ring $16)
 (dress $50, purse $40, shoes $35)

A real update!

My night class is officially over! I've been behind on sleep and decided to take today off so I could for once sleep in without setting my alarm! I woke up thinking it was noon, but it was only 9am! Haha. I just can't get sleep can I? I decided to make breakfast and catch up on television shows before getting to business! Brent left last night to go visit his family in Louisiana before school started back up. His grandma was recently diagnosed again with breast cancer and had surgery. It's so sad because she is honestly the sweetest woman ever. I love her as much as my own grandma. She calls everyone sugar and pumpkin. It's so cute. Brent also hasn't seen the rest of his family for almost a year. His cousin just found out she's pregnant and we're so excited for her! It's been hard for Brent living here for 5 years and not seeing his family. If we could afford to go down there every month we would.

In the midst of my hectic schedule since I updated last, I of course made some time to bake and sew! To start, I recently found a recipe online for peanut butter button cookies. I immediately thought they were beyond adorable and brilliant! They were  so simple to make and will now be a design I use whenever I make peanut butter cookies!

Here mine are just before going in the oven! So cute!
This image is from bakerella.com
I never took a picture of mine post-dipping!

The day after baking I decided to start a project for my friend Dawn. She's moving out of the house and into her first apartment! So exciting! I know how challenging it is to decorate apartment walls that can't be painted! I wanted to go stock up on little things you forget about needing like towels and trash cans, but that's not cute and I can't afford it! So I grabbed scraps from my fabric bin and started cutting triangles! I made three different length strands of bunting for her bedroom or living room. I wish I had placed them more sporadically, but I'm still pleased!

I also decided to attempt to make my very first pot holder! I will eventually sell them on etsy when I get better. I was easier than I thought, minus the trim. When I first purchased the fabric I knew I had to use it for something in the kitchen!

Last thing I did since my last post was color my hair! Nothing too exciting or out of the norm I know. I've just been struggling with it lately. I have been bouncing around with hair colors for years and always find myself going back to red. However instead of the intense red, I did an orange-copper red. I loved it and so did everyone else. I've never had so many compliments from strangers about how well it brought out my complexion and asking if the color was natural. I fell in love! So I've kept it for the past seven months. However, I usually change by now and Brent's been asking me to go back to blonde. So I decided I was going to gradually go back and I purchased copper blonde color to start. However, I think because of the amount of permanent hair color previously it did nothing! I sadly am going to have to strip it if I really want to go back. I just don't think I'm ready!

It looks darker/lighter depending on the light.
There's the blouse and dress I purchased yesterday too!

Bye Big Purses!

Hello Bloggers! Recently I've been trying to shy away from the large boho purses. I know what you're thinking, I have one which you've seen in all my outfit pictures! I purchased it for our Philly trip because I needed one large enough to carry our cameras. Prior to the trip; I had downsized to a small, beautiful, over the shoulder, tooled purse from Urban Outfitters. It was originally over a hundred dollars, but I got it at an outlet store for $20!
Only picture I have of it unfortunately.

Back to the point. If you are in fact an owner of large purses, you understand how difficult it is to move to a small one! I carry not only Office Max in my purse; but pieces of my closet, first aid kits, and any in-case item. When I first downsized, I found that less is more! I only had the most necessary items and there was no more digging to find things! So now, I'm downsizing even more!

Hello to the 70's and 80's small, leather, saddle purses. I had a bunch of them in my closet that I wish I never got rid of. When I was younger, I thought they were tacky! Well not all are tacky. In fact, bright colors are the perfect accent for an outfit. I decided it was time to add to my collection. I began my search on Etsy, which quickly became overwhelming when my search results were narrowed to 4,500 purses. The past two days I went through all of them and made my top favorites! I decided, why not share them with you? Whether or not you're a fan of small purses, some of these are worth checking out!

All my selections are leather, 70's or 80's, and over-the-shoulder straps. The strap length is a must for me! I can't stand any thing else anymore! It's so nice to have two free hands and nothing to worry about holding!

This stunner was my purchase!
Yellow is my favorite color.
It's 80's but not too over the top.
I purchased it from MyGmasCloset

This purse strap needed a little TLC.
I love the woven texture, and what doesn't a white purse match with?
I can't say all my choices can be dressed up, but this purse definitely can!
$35 also from MyGmasCloset

Hello, vintage Coach!
This beautiful baby is cream and will go with everything.
It's a soft transition too as it still has some of that Boho style.
$59 from VintageOriental

This purse seriously hasn't sold yet?
It's 80's awesome! Haha.
Plus aren't triangles all the rage right now?

This woven hot pink (okay a little tacky) purse is calling my name!
Not too small and guarantees to be a pop of color.
Only $22 from Coldfish

Okay, I know this one screams 80's.
I think it's such a fun design!
$60 from Pinguim

Maybe the solid mustard yellow is a better choice?
This would be PERFECT with a navy dress.
ONLY $20 from Sunfunnels
(I know I get excited when I see good deals!)

Moving from yellow to tan! Haha.
This one is definitely more 70's.
Not woven, but hand tooled! Tricks the eye I know!
ONLY $21 from RockinRubysVintage

Another 70's leather classic.
I like that it's plain, it makes it a lot more versatile.

This is a teeny purse. I don't know how I'd even get my wallet in there!
Pretty grandma-ish but would shine with the right outfit.
$35 from VeroVintage

This purse's stitching caught my eye.
I can see it's potential again with the right outfit.
Only $20 from NoCarnations

This bag is just a smaller version of what we're seeing today.
I still love it!
$26 from TheParaders

So if you're thinking again, too 80's, It's not!
This would look so hip with a pair of skinny jeans.
Envision it!
Especially when it's ONLY $12 from LittleLotteVintage
You buy it, or I will!

I wasn't sure about this purse, but kept going back to it.
70's tooling and tassel keep the vintage look.
$25 from CassiesAttic

Maybe a little too 80's? I'm still loving it.
ONLY $13 from MaggieRoseVintage

This one is another easy transition to todays style.
It will hold a bit more than the others and is super cheap!
 $12 from NostalgiaHandbags

I know I said I love every purse, but this is my number two favorite!
Gray is such a great color and hard to find!
The stitching and ruching, oh me oh my!
I'll be snatching up soon if you guys don't!
Only $18 from SimpleVintage

PS: My man had to give me a hard time when he noticed I was making a blog post all about purses. [Which we ladies know, it's only about one kind of purse! There's many more to talk about!] He had to poke fun and mention, "You never see guys talking about wallets or blogging about them. We don't go up to our guy friends and say, 'Have you seen this wallet? Isn't it cute? It has a pocket for my giftcards!" I started cracking up and had to share with you all! I take pride in being girly and fashionable. At least he loves me for it. =]

Singing in the Sun

Today was great. I took the day off clinicals to relax and catch up on homework. I still had an exam at later around six, but it was short and I got to come straight back home!

Brent plays music a lot more than I do, but we both struggle practicing because of the noise. The apartment walls are paper thin and lets face it, you can strum a guitar quietly, but not a violin! We decided since it was so pretty out, to take our instruments to a field near my parents and play. It was near our community garden, so it was pretty funny when we were playing and people were peeking over the hill to see what was going on. We stayed for an hour or two, but the sun started going down and more bugs started coming out. I swear, some of those critters I've never seen before! I'm not a camper, I cannot deal with bugs much at all! I also got a dozen or so more mosquito bites. You think I'd learn by now! Haha.
We brought the acoustic, my violin, my grandpa's tambourine, and a harmonica.

I decided to break out my Polaroid camera. The film is expired. I only have two more packs. I've been trying to savor them!
Oh and I'm wearing an old lady's night gown that I got for 25 cents at goodwill! Haha.

I tried the Panoramic camera on my phone, the colors turned out a little wacky though.

I'll leave you with one of our favorite songs to sing together. It's actually a cover by Cocoon of Hey Ya by Outkast. It's just so sweet and perfect. I love it.

Pictures in the park

Today's been a lazy day. It was hard waking up early after sleeping in this long holiday weekend. After class I decided I was going to make time to wash my hair since I've been putting it off way too long. I never wash it at night, so every morning I have to choose between sleeping in or washing it. Haha. It's those college days I guess. I have to admit I do dress up though and get strange looks from the kids in sweats. I've just never been able to wear sweat pants out. EVER. I guess that's not a bad thing.

So nothing has gone on today except lounging around the apartment. We did visit the park for a while but didn't stay long. I love the hot sun, but can't stand humidity. Anyways, here's some pictures. I found yet another fun photography app and was messing around. Maybe I'll move away from the Hipstamatic.

PS: Brent and I went to The Pottery Place a few days ago! It was so much fun. I picked out a vase, that I was going to use to hold our kitchen utensils. Brent picked a teapot with a saucer to paint for his mom. [I know he's so sweet!] We had a lot of fun. If it wasn't so pricey we'd go there and paint all of our dishes.

I took it with my iphone, then when I cropped and optimized it the quality was destroyed. Apologies. Isn't it cute though? I was so happy with how it turned out!

Mellow Monday

How was everyone's 4th of July? Brent and I spent time with my family and had a cook out. After we watched fireworks from a golf course in my hometown. I got mosquito bites EVERYWHERE. I knew I should've brought bug spray! I'm still itching them like crazy! Here's a quick picture of the fireworks. Due to the economy the cut the amount. I was sad I just miss how they used to be. I wasn't even sure if the finale was the finale!

Onwards, the weather here has been beautiful lately. I've been spending almost all of my spare time outdoors. The temperature has been around 90 every day and I've definitely been feeling the humidity! It's the pure feeling of summer. Every day is full of sunshine followed by sweet summer nights.
