Happy Birthday To Me

I'm one pale 23 year old!
My lovely day started off working of course! They let me out early though and the sweetest lady at a bakery pagoda in the mall gave me a free cupcake! My parents arrived at my apartment shortly after with my fabric bin and an organizer to sort them. I can't wait to get back to sewing!

I decided I want to stay at home and watch a movie and eat dinner instead of going out like we usually do! Sometimes family time is best relaxing at home! I didn't expect anything additional from my parents for my birthday because they got me my kitty last month! They gave me some vintage Christmas ornaments, a gift card and a Brita water filter! Thank goodness because I drink tons of water and am tired of buying jugs! I don't think the water at my apartment is unsafe, but I don't necessarily want to drink water from 100 year old pipes!

I'm hoping I can go out with friends this coming weekend since I was so busy working retail with the holidays this past weekend! Check out my 23 things to do before I'm 24 list here!
Florence Margot is the sweetest, cutest, cuddliest, precious, baby ever!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope you all are having a great day! I'll be at my grandma's with lots of food, family, fun and football! Yet, I take a moment to recognize how blessed I am. I have a roof over my head, food in my cupboard, family, friends, love. There are people starving, without an education, without shelter, no care or want for technology, rather clean water to drink.
More to be thankful stories: I work throughout the week at a hospital. Yesterday I met two patients. One was a young boy, in his twenties. He was just diagnosed with testicular cancer. Can you imagine being that young? After treatment he most likely won't be able to have children. I felt so bad. Another man was visiting family from out of state, mid-thirties, with little kids. He was playing rough with them and thought he hurt a rib, when we took the x-ray he had a nodule taking up half of his lung, most likely cancer and was rushed immediately for a biopsy. Another situation I couldn't imagine.. being surprised and unsure how serious it is, if it is, how long you'll live.. If you'll live to see your children grow up. You never know what tomorrow holds.

I sometimes get bitter and selfish, but I have to live every day to it's fullest. I have to be thankful for what I have, rather than what I don't. Today give thanks!

The BIG Birthday & Christmas Wish List

It's my favorite time of year! Yes, fall is my favorite season, but it's also my birthday and I know that Christmas is right around the corner! [One month away!] This time of year for me is all about fun, family and relaxing. Also, what's more fun that gathering an exciting hopeful wish list?

Part of the reason why I've stopped sewing is because I'm down to scraps!
[all via etsy]

Leggings & Tights:
I've heard so many great reviews about We Love Colors
It's about time I added them to my wardrobe.

I've been waiting and wanting an Instax forever
& would love the Diana Mini to carry in my purse!
Also discovered this amazing panoramic camera via TheDaintySquid

I still want these, but added two more!
I bought a long denim shirt recently, but it doesn't look quite as nice as theirs!
Also, how pretty is the second dress? I wish that was my birthday dress!

[one : two]

Love boots, flats, & mocs!
My must have is #5!
[one : two : three: four : five : six : seven : eight]

I'm in desperate need for some wine glasses!
These need to be in my kitchen!
I adore this quote, the colors, the print, everything.
I would love to either buy this, or make one for Margot!
I'd really love to own a terrarium or another bonsai tree, they're so beautiful.
A bookmobile, another one I'd love to buy or make myself!
I'd love love love to learn how to crochet, until then, I want this pillow!

The Big Gift?
I'd love, love, love a compact elliptical for the apartment!
I enjoy all gym's offer, but have way too much anxiety for them!
I tore my meniscus from running on the treadmill too much, so an elliptical is a must!
I already sorta went pre-birthday shopping for myself! =X
It's been a while since I splurged on myself so decided to for my birthday.
Especially when I got birthday coupons from Victora Secret, UO and Anthropologie!

I didn't see a lot from UO, but had to snatch up the cutest measuring spoons!
I also caught an oversized top and adorable bow-back sweatshirt on sale!
I stopped at F21, but again was disappointed!
Snagged a tacky cat shirt because it looked like Margot and a floral dress.
Last, but not least! I got my birthday dress from Modcloth

Current Feelings & List of 23 things to do before I'm 24!

Recently I've lost motivation and let go. Last week I stopped doing the dishes, putting away my laundry, tried doing anything I enjoyed. I got stuck in the rut of work and coming home and doing nothing. Sometimes I work myself so hard, keep myself so busy and worry all too much. It's been pretty difficult lately without Brent around. When I first moved we saw each other almost every day, lately it's been once a week. It's strange because I didn't let the reality set in. All I focused on was how dearly I missed him. Then when my parents started asking about him and Christmas, the feelings sunk in. The future, our wedding, our commitments, our feelings, our hopes. It makes me cry every time. I haven't taken my engagement ring off, I won't. In my heart I made that commitment and I'm not giving up. Originally I moved out in hopes to give space, to work on things and start over. It's been so difficult to not go back to old habits though. I want nothing more than for this to work. We'll spend nights arguing, then the next day together in love, happy. The arguments have been expressing feelings and trying to get each other to understand. The thing is Brent's understood me all along.
Next week is my birthday. The past three years Brent and I have gone to Columbus one of my favorite cities. We spend the day browsing shops on Short North. Getting the most delicious ice cream I've ever had at Jeni's. When the sun sets we head over to Easton shopping center, knowing they already have their Christmas decorations up. It's so pretty and romantic. The truth is I'd love to go out with my friends, but I'm always the happiest going with him. He is truly my best friend. There's no one else I've ever been completely myself with.
As I've been having mini breakdowns for the past month I've been able to actually see and realize things I hadn't before. Areas I screwed up in our relationship, things I could've done differently. In our discussions, it's been clear we both learned some things. I got frustrated the other night because we've been acting like we're together, doing things couples do, then trying to act like we're separated. We got together Friday night and talked more. I cried in the car outside the restaurant. Words cannot ever express my love for him and he knows. We want to work on things, but it's extremely important to focus on school first. Stress has been high enough outside of our relationship lately.

I decided that I can't let myself get down about this. It isn't over, it's beginning again. I became motivated today to do what I love and be happy. In light of my birthday, I came up with a list of 23 things I'd like to do before I'm 24.

1. Spend more time with friends.
2. Sew a vintage inspired dress line.
3. Start carrying & using film cameras more.
4. Visit more museums.
5. Learn how to crochet & knit.
6. Get another tattoo.
7. Organize & print old photos.
8. Add more vintage to my home & closet.
9. Travel over to Chicago.
10. Go to California to visit my brother.
11. Purchase a pretty bicycle.
12. Pass my radiography registry in May! [& hopefully get a job?!]
13. Ride inside a hot air balloon!
14. Bake the epic rainbow layer cake.
15. Make a bookmobile.
16. Make another altered book.
17. Buy a record player & start collecting.
18. Make a mix tape for every month.
19. Read a book every month.
20. Go to the drive-in movies again.
21. Take Brent out on the greatest date ever.
22. Really treat my parents.
23. Go out of the way to help someone.
[thanks for the idea elsie!]
Despite the fact that a lot hasn't changed in the past year, a few things have changed that I'm proud of. I successfully made it through one of the toughest scholastic years ever. I moved out on my own and became independent. I got the kitty I've always wanted since I was little! I started my etsy shop of handmade and thrifted finds. I picked up my bible for the first time in ten years. I stopped smoking!!!! I visited Philadelphia for the first time. I'm sure there's a lot more that I don't realize. Anyways, it's been a good year and I'm looking forward to the next!

Thrifty Thursday

It's about time for another Thrifty Thursday post! I realized it's been FIVE weeks since I've gone! The move put a damper on my routine for a while! I of course planned on waking up early today and driving to all my favorite shops, but only made it to a three! Why? Well, I decided to stop at my parents house to visit and ended up staying all night! So my thrift day was a bit of a bust, but I still found a few things from the few shops I stopped at. Time to share? =]
Here's a nautical dress and western plaid shirt.
It's strange because I now have 4 nautical dresses. I think they're my favorite!
Here's a new recipe box, which I love much more than the last!
I also found two taller glasses which you can see in the center.
I was excited to find a milk glass dish to use for the plant my landlord gave me when I moved in!
This one I wasn't sure about purchasing.
I already have an espresso maker, but this was too cute to pass up!
Last but not least, a new favorite, a 1950's radio.
This one will be listed on etsy, since I decided to keep my other.
Hope you guys are having a great week!

Bye bye Blondie

So if you're not too familiar with me orrr my hair, I get the urge to change it often! However after years of silly colors and streaks in 2006 I went bright red when I started art school. Ever since then I've changed to different shades of red, and couldn't stop going back. Last year I found my favorite shade for my complexion. I kept the color the longest I've ever kept any. Then a few months ago I decided to go back to bleach blonde, the color I was when Brent and I first met in 2005. Now that it's getting chilly and the leaves are changing I was ready to revert back to red again! I wasn't sure if I should go dark or light, but figured it's safer to gradually go darker. So when I was browsing colors today I found the lightest red I could and unfortunately the color didn't come out how I wanted, but I think I'll get used to it soon! It's strange because the color has some red, some brown and some blonde in it. Although already looking back on photos comparing the blonde to now, I do much better with the warmer tones! I guess I'll wait to see if I want to try the red penny again!

^ That's my uhhh what color is this face =P

Here's the red penny color from last year.

Here's the last blonde photos.

All My Eyes Can See Is All I Know

I was so excited when I saw Azure Ray was coming back to Cleveland. I have the greatest of memories from 2003 driving around with friends singing to their beautiful voices. They're one of those bands you'll never get tired of! Luckily Brent was able to get us free tickets for reviewing the show for the online magazine he works for. Lately I've been tired of opening bands, but this shows openers were all excellent. My favorite was Tim Fike. Mind you I had never heard of this guy and had no idea what to expect. He came out on stage in white overalls, a projector, an awesome handmade wooden stereo, and microphone. He was a totally different form of entertainment than music!

Here's a picture of the wooden stereo and one of the films that played while he "sang."
This is an actual picture of his crazy self!
He stepped off stage and took the glasses and hat off the people next to me,
then took my purse off and brought it on stage.
Onto Azure Ray. They came out on stage in adorable correlating dresses that I'd love to own! They sang my favorite songs, Sleep, November, Drinks We Drank Last Night and Hold on Love. They sang in perfect melody. I was shocked how young they actually were and tiny! They even offered anyone from the audience to come up and sing their last song Rise. I admit I haven't heard a lot from their new album, but the songs I did hear were lovely.
I wish I could've gotten better pictures!
It's actually hard when you're up so close to get everything in one picture!
We didn't stay too late after the show. I actually saw miss Amanda there too! However being my shy self I didn't stop to say hello! Brent and I drove home then I drank some wine, cuddled up and went to sleep! I decided to take today off, preparing that we wouldn't get home until late! It was so nice to sleep in today! I haven't slept too well since moving! I decided today to lounge all day since I've been running around and working so much lately. All I did today was watch Dexter and shop online! I feel pretty bad I didn't do anything productive, but I'll save that list for tomorrow!
