DIY Nail Polish Storage

I've always stored my nail polish in containers or tins. Lately my storage has been over flowing and I've found myself purchasing the same colors again and again without remembering what I already have. I wanted to store my polishes all together in a non-cluttered way so I could see them all when choosing a color. My hunt started online for the plastic polish racks you see inside salons. Their price ranges were from $50 - $100+ which was ridiculous! I thought about what else could be used and stumbled upon old spice racks or shadow boxes. These are perfect with shelves depth at two inches (nail polishes are normally one inch) and have varied appearances to add some extra style to your space.

I was very excited when I found an adorable old house shadow box on ebay for a mere $15! Plans were to paint it and hang it in my bathroom or living room for all to see.

I painted the house blue and roof a dark brown. I used a dry brush technique to add a rustic feel.
I was also able to store my 40 nail polishes easily. The good part is that there is room to store another 20-30 more behind the front row also! Good excuse to get more right?

Interested in getting your own spice rack or shadow box to store your own nail polish?
Here's four I also love from ebay and etsy.

Buy now! one two three four

Keep in consideration the height and depth of shelves! Some nail polishes are taller and wider than others. Also keep in mind how many polishes you have to calculate if you'll have enough space to store them all!

Friday's Fashion Finds

We are nearing the end of August. Which means it's time to ween away from bright and lightweight summer color palettes to warm and cozy fall looks. Fall is my favorite season, but as always when realizing summer is almost over, you want to wear the season's looks one last time! Here's some outfits that are perfect for the summer to fall transition.

Going out? This outfit mixes a warm coral and cool pink with a rich black color.

Cool blue shades aren't often seen in fall outfits. However this darker shade of blue, leaning towards a turquoise color can easily transition into fall colors. Cool corals keep the summers brightness, while the yellow accessories transition to falls warm colors.

I'm usually afraid of any piece of clothing that is pea colored green, but can never resist an olive green. The beauty of this color is again, it's the perfect mix between summer and fall. Cooling with an over-sized blue purse and warming with brown wedges.

I found two styles for this pretty lace dress. That's the beauty with white, you can do anything! On the left shows more fall accessories, introducing a light scarf and ankle boots. The right are some more fun and quirky additions that have the perfect mix of color tones, which can also be paired with the boots on the left.

Last, but not least, a colorful outfit that will shine on sunny day and wear into the cooler nights. This outfit mixes warm bright yellows, corals and a dark cool balanced navy violet. Plus, those shoes are to die for!

No More Waiting

Hey y'all. I've been putting off my blogger for two simple reasons. First, I have truly been pretty busy with my Ultrasound Program! But, the second reason (and the main reason) is that I've just been waiting... After such a long period of not blogging I felt such a large distance from the community (even myself in some ways) and was waiting for something to post and start again. What exactly was I waiting for? I'm not sure.. Time is always going to be limited and I'd rather have the blog as a journey towards monumental moments, instead of waiting for those moments to arrive, then blog again.

I've been questioning for quite some time what my motives are for blogging. Many blogs suggest to not be personal. I  guess for me I want to my blog to flow though like a story of my life, versus a majority of advertisements. Yes, I still enjoy sharing material items, but what is substance to me, is my actual life. I don't want to fear losing followers intersests from sharing more personal posts. So for the _?_th time I'm going to approach this blog again and not get overwhelmed with the mighty amount of plans I have or had for future posts, but simply for today's. =]

If you're not following me on Instagram or Twitter - Please do! It's where I'm the most active.

I'm off for a small summer break also until August 27th. Yes my summer break is a mere two weeks long. So most of my days have been spent sleeping in and staying up late! So much better than my usual 5am morning routine!

Today's festivities included the continuation of reading The Happiness Project, which Shane bought me for our one year anniversary. (woohoo!) I had been longing to read the book since it came out, but never seemed to have the time. Luckily with my mini break from school, I've been able to do some daily reading. The book is what I'd hope it to be and more. It's not about being unhappy at all, like so many people assume when I mention what I'm reading! It's about wanting more than being content with life. It's about loving what you have that you don't embrace and not wasting any extra moments. I've always been told I have a "sunshine" personality from other people since I was young. I am pretty good at portraying things though, even when I don't feel happy to that magnitude within myself. Although I will say that it's easy for me to "shine" for other people, because I do in fact love people so much! I've already been jotting down notes for my own happiness project, but will put it all together when I finish the book! So to follow, here's some current sources of my happiness.

Simplest of forms, self pampering -
Painting my nails, which I do almost every day!

Daily entertainment from my cats -
Margot top & Isobel below

Last, but not least, my main squeeze of joy - my boyfriend Shane
He keeps me laughing, feeling young and loved, honestly every single day.

Have you read The Happiness Project?
If so have you implemented any of it's advice in your life?
For anyone that has or hasn't, what are your main sources of happiness?

Cupcake Cones

Cupcake cones were one of my childhood's treats. I decided last night that I wanted to bake them this weekend thinking it'd be a quick easy task. Then I realized I had no clue how high to fill the cones with batter or how long to cook them!

You can use any cake batter mix you want. Shane wanted chocolate, so that's what I made!

After a few different tries I found it was best to fill the cones under the ridge.
I also used a round pan to hold them together in the oven.
You can also use an egg carton.
I baked them at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.
I tried baking them less, but the tops weren't finished.
It's best just to check after 18 minutes!
Then wait for them to cool, ice & sprinkle!
Voila!

Last of Lights

My Christmas break is already over! I headed back to class this week and w-h-e-w this semester is going to be rough! I already wrote everything from my syllabi in my planner and it's packed! I realized that my goal of blogging more already hasn't been a success and will be difficult with this semester's workload. I'm still going to try my best! Here's some photos from the other night that Shane and I that we took downtown. I wanted to get pictures before they took they Christmas lights down! I always feel like they're the perfect backdrop. =]
I don't think there are any photos I'm serious in. Haha.

This was from earlier this week when it was snowing.
It makes me so sad that it stopped!

Hope you guys are having a great week!

Thrifty Goodness

I wanted to make this a Thrifty Thursday post, but I waited until late and now it's after midnight and Friday already! Also, I'm without photoshop using an old laptop I'm not used to, while I wait three weeks for my MacBook Pro to be repaired. =/ So bear with me! I decided to run to a local thrift store on a whim today and made out pretty well. When you have those lucky days, you want to thrift everywhere all day, however I limited myself to one stop. Onwards to the thrifty goodness!

Snagged this set of four yellow trays that I absolutely adore!
Also, a strawberry/floral melamine plate and a small tin goose tray.
Floral cheese plate set and a hot pad.
Sorta wanna keep the hot pad for myself. =P
I found some tacky 80's sweaters.
The bottom left has a obscene design that I don't understand at all,
but it's really long and would look awesome with tights.
Two lovely blouses with pretty prints!
Two heels and two flats.
I really fancy the left pair of flats, maybe another keeper?
An old floral thermos pitcher
Dish, teacup and a mail storage organizer.
I can't wait to paint the mail organizer & pretty it up!

In addition I got some glass server ware and some dresses.
Being that it's midnight currently, there's no natural lighting in my apartment
so taking photos of the dresses on my dress form wouldn't have turned out well at all!

Hope you enjoyed!

PS: These will be added to my Etsy shop during this month once I get some extra time!
